Rohtak

Located immediately to the north of the present town and another around 5 Kms.to the east, Rohtak, the district capital, is claimed to be a correction of Rohtashgarh, a name still attributed to the wrecked sites of two ancient settlements.

Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy. Out of the overall workforce, roughly 42.18 percent are involved in agricultural and related occupations, 7.68 percent in home-based enterprises, and the remaining 5.2 percent in other fields. New industries in the city include those related to education and healthcare.

Many of the finest screw factories in the world are located in this city, supplying markets all over the world. Dairies as well as a sugar factory can be found in the urban centre. The production of textiles and gold jewellery both have major hubs in Rohtak City.
