It is estimated that 49.8 percent of Prayagraj’s workforce is engaged in the city’s “Trade and transportation” businesses. Some 26.29 percent of the city’s workforce is employed by “Miscellaneous Store Retailers,” for instance. It also has a substantial footprint in “Professional & business services” (20.45%), particularly in “Administrative & Support Services”.
Agriculture, fishing, and tourism are Prayagraj’s three primary industries. Some manufacturing and secondary activities require licences while others do not. Prayagraj’s economy is also being helped by the many new buildings being built there.
There are around 10,000 small-scale industry firms in the metro area, according to the third All India Survey for Small Scale Industries. Dedicated Freight Route Corporation of India also proposes developing 1200 acres of land in Prayagraj into an integrated industrial township.
